Healing for mental illness is not an overnight fix; I think the church needs to see it differently. Obviously God can heal whatever, whenever. But I think that mental illnesses, and any other long–term conditions that have to do with the brain, need more long–term prayer. The gift of healing is exercised in the Church today through individual faith and prayer—on one’s own behalf or on behalf of others—and through priesthood blessings. The fulfillment of healing blessings comes by faith and according to the will of the Lord. Not all blessings result in healing.

Multitudes of books have been written on what is variously called faith healing, spiritual healing, divine healing, healing prayer for the sick, healing ministry (and other similar expressions). James K. Wagner has condensed his well-known workshop on healing and wholeness into an easy-to-use workbook format. Field-tested and designed for church groups, this seven-session study will provide participants with a basic understanding of the holistic approach to health and of the relationship between prayer and healing/5(5). There are extensive lists of Scriptures for healing services on and in the Book of Worship. Music for healing services: The United Methodist Hymnal () contains useful indexes of hymns for various needs and occasions ( and following) and a specific list on healing .
